So i’ve always intuitively felt since I was a kid that we all came here with instructions/purpose from God but as we (kids) get older and are indoctrinated into sytems of the world and by our parents belief systems we forget our instructions and spend most of our lifetime getting hit by clues and reminders from strangers that don’t understand…

It’s funny, but I believe that we learn about our limitations as kids so much that we forget about our capacity to do things as adults.

Love this topic… I’ll watch when your script becomes a film

Interesting Lawrence. And Thank you Brett. Do you believe we learn ABOUT our limitations or are they spoken into us?

Yes!!! Infact my personal motto as a Mom was “ I can fix anything “ even to the point of walking infront of their class to fix their science project that wasn’t working as planned without letting them try first. I have to tell my self not only can I not fix everything but I interrupt their life lessons when I do.

Graduation Speakers
Hypothetically, if you were asked to give an engaging and empowering message to the collegians of the Class of 2026, what would you say?
-
It would probably be, is this the world you want? If it is, fine, you’ve got it. But if it isn’t, then what are you going to do about it?

Have been telling my kids and their friends they have come of age in unprecedented times and this political environment isn’t normal. They can use the technological advancements that are second nature to them to do good and please don’t forget the human connection side of the equation.

I’m a big reader of historical fiction and i decided that in 2026 I’m going to focus on reading about stories of people not like me. So far, I’ve read about generations of a Hawaiian family told through their gift of Hula. A based on reality story of a Japanese family interred at Manzanar and an amazing book written by two sisters about…

Thank you for sharing those titles. Your mention of Hula made me think of https://savingplaces.org/places/natatorium that I became aware of after staying in a nearby hotel. And meeting Johnny Angel, lifeguard and son of legendary Jose Angel when my son was surfing the North Shore as part of his college visit.
Garden of Stones reminds me…

In a nation where efforts to deny Black contributions to world history are ever rising, I’m more committed than ever to sharing our stories. Last week, I was honored to speak with over 300 students across 10 classes about the Tuskegee Airmen’s contributions to Double Victory in WWII. My grandfather was an original Tuskegee Airman and took the…

Did you have the chance to see “FLY” at the Pasadena Playhouse back in 2016? It was a theatrical production about the Tuskegee Airmen. I had the pleasure of doing an installation for their on-site community gallery, and I had access to an amazing family archive of photos from LA artist Mark Greenfield, whose grandfather was a member of the Airmen.

This is so cool. And the additional context of your grandfather’s story from a quick search is even cooler !!! Love that you captured the story in a children’s book.

So my 10 yr old daughter wants to know why every song on the radio she hears are mainly romantic songs and why adults don’t have anything else to sing about? Other than “Happy” by Pharrell what are some you all like?
-
Yes, I’m responding to my own post much like how I talk to myself… I’d say “ lovely day” Bill Withers, I think that would pass

Don’t Worry Be Happy perhaps? I see a theme here…

Keeping it 10 year old friendly, I think Bruno Mars has a couple songs that might fit the upbeat vibe.

Posted this on my LinkedIn today, and I feel as if it might be valuable here, too:
“Years ago, I substituted for a colleague as a writing workshop instructor for a day. I had previously led several of my own workshops, and came prepared with a mix of what was originally scheduled and a few bits of lessons of my own.
The students and I talked…
