This is a really excellent doc that I suggest everyone check out. It goes way beyond entertainment and explores how groundbreaking it was for Ed Sullivan to feature Black performers on his show, as well as the pushback he got for it behind the scenes and publicly. It’s on Netflix now.

Started watching this… my favorite quote so far from Ed is when talking about his parents. “They weren’t necessarily broad minded…. they were just sensible” when talking about their views on segregation/racism.

@brett.werger it’d be cool if more people were just sensible (at least).

@april-ross definitely !!! It just struck me with the simplicity. I mean why is it so hard to be sensible…. or decent… or kind.

Saw it a few weeks ago and it was very good. Ed Sullivan stood on business when he knew it would cost him those ad dollars and piss off Southern affiliates that aired his show.
