The Godfather...
One of my hacks when on a cross-country flight is to turn on the Godfather and forget about time. It is so brilliantly done, and I’ve appreciated it even more ever since I took a class with Howard Suber at UCLA film twenty years ago. It just works.
For example, the theme of the whole story? We don’t have to wait around. “I believe in America” is the theme. Next, note how a Sicilian can’t refuse to hear others’ problems at his daughter’s wedding? What do we eventually end up with? Vito has to solve his own problem at his daughter’s wedding with the Turk and the narcotics proposal.
It all just works.
