When we opened The Metaphor Club, the partners wanted to shrink access and privilege in Leimert Park. Why should interviews with prominent black movers and shakers take place outside of Black Los Angeles? Wouldn’t it be great if our members, and the community, could meet people who have succeeded…and want to see them succeed?

Each month, The Metaphor Club hosts Live from the Metaphor, where The Root’s Monique Judge and Metaphor Club partner Lawrence Ross, interview authors, writers, and other Black celebrities.

Best selling author Walter Mosley and Monique Judge speak about his literature and work on the show Snowfall.
Insecure producer and writer Amy Aniobi speaks on her journey from UCLA film school to being on the hottest show on television.
Veteran television director Ken Whittingham talks to Monique Judge about how he went from NBC page to NAACP Image Award winning director.
Writers Selwyn Hinds and Kemp Powers talk about their experiences in Hollywood.
