Edge of the Art Stage: MFA: Pro or Con

Come on into The Metaphor Club this Saturday! At noon, Hasef hosts our monthly Edge of the Stage for art, as he interviews local artist Bijan Machen about whether or not one should get an MFA in art. Machen is an interdisciplinary fine artist and educator working in Los Angeles, CA. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology, and Culture from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and earned his MFA from ArtCenter College of Design.

Machen employs curated and discovered materials combined with premeditated and chance-based processes to explore socio-political themes and modes of community engagement. His work explores art as therapy for the purposes of education, holistic healing and vibrational alignment. He creates objects and experiences that challenge oppressive societal constructs and promote community wellness while moving the language of fine art forward.
